A Skinnerbox, so I am told, is a box out of which jumps a little devil (or so) when opened, something that is meant to scare you.
Skinnerbox, that’s also two gentlemen, one of them immigrated from a far away country and both living in Berlin now. In their boxes there’s no devil (although the church has tought us all that the devil is everywhere, right?), but there are grandpa’s old synths, funnily and heavily beeping and bumping beats and basses, joy and fun as in Godzilla’s playroom, all of this tight and straight and boomy.
An absolute highlight is the appearance of mister RQM, grandmaster of rimes (“the Tape”), feeling at ease with these 2/4 beats like Fidel Castro behind the lectern.
And then comes Mister Humantronic, his remix, finest tech that will wake up the beast even where no beast was ever before.

André Pollmann aka Apoll started his musical career1987. Living in an industrial area (Duisburg, Germany), he was involved in the EBM scene which started to grow at this time in Belgium. Apoll was influenced by Skinny Puppy, Front Line Assembly, Clock DVA, Soft Cell, Front 242 and of course Depeche Mode and Kraftwerk. Talking of Kraftwerk: in 2004, a dream came through! Apoll was asked to remix a track from Wolfgang Flür, a member of the pioneers – Kraftwerk! After leaving Duisburg for Switzerland in 1991, Apoll quit the EBM scene and found his love as a producer as well as a DJ in electronic, minimal styled dance music and started releasing on different well known labels (mentioned above).
In 2001, Apoll started his own label called Tongut. Tongut stands for minimal quality techno and features artists like René Breitbarth, Falko Brocksieper, Hugo, Joachim Spieth, Björn Stolpmann and of course Apoll himself.
In 2006, Neopren was added as a new label with great design and rocking club techno and has already been getting great worldwide response. Within the big minimal scene, Apoll has never been a star, but he has been there for years delivering catchy tunes! If you’re looking for some minimal rocking Techno and House, Apoll’s the man!

« Born and raised in Tokyo, living in Berlin since may 2007, Akiko Kiyama presents on NEOPREN010 two wonderful Minimal-Tracks, synthetic, acrylic, rough and raw, sober and straight, shy and yet damn clubby.
Akiko - whose delicately reduced musical style is partly defined by some earlier 12” releases on m-nus – creates a fragile and surprising cosmos of subtle rhythmical structures and wobbling guttural waveforms, all this combined with this very special female approach that people all around the globe seem to love more and more.

For those who like it a little bit less minimal, there are two remixes included.
We have one by Humantronic, the minitech (or tech?) berserk from France, who re-establishes an industrially strict balance of pumping and knitting sounds, with almost trancy elements… good and healthy food for the club community.

Then there is the pop-3’s edit, an electro-house-like popping and beeping rework with lots of bit-reduced and sliced audiojunk, fat wet synthbass and kickdrums nicely coexisting between 4/4 and syncopes, and this all gently seasoned with some japanese female telephone-voices… the girl of pop-3 might be Japanese or so, not sure…

Anyway, you should get this records before all the others get it! »

“Springtime is back, blue sky and hayfever, the birds are singing in the trees, Neopren records is one year old, and in the mastering-studio next to my desk I hear the ass kicking rhythms of the Neo009.

Now, let’s not talk of the birds, but of this Neo009.

It’s father is called Theodor Zox, he’s from Denmark and has accomplished many good deeds in recent times; like several fantastic records with Morris Audio, Tic Tac Toe and Trenton.

Zox has originally been a graphic artist, but multitasking is a keyword of this 3rd millennium, so we may say that this record emanates a certain harsh precision, like a high end digital art print that even makes us doubt about Mondrian.

If Zox was a Sculptor, his works would be angled and polished, simple and magically effective.

No sound on this record (which is called “more fluff”, which astonishes me) hangs around too long between the acrylic clear beats, the square waves are bellied and cold as Vodka from an iceberg, the higher frequencies refreshingly cool as hills in the highlands, and straight lines are the dominating theme by far; this is dance music in itself.

The basses live in rich bounteousness which is strictly controlled, though. Why boom it when you can bang it? Perfect shapes, functional beauty and a refreshing taste will rock you. During any physical effort like dancing or so. Like DJing, too, actually.

This record is highly gainful for your warm summer nights, on a beach or in more urban settings.

After our ominous 007-record, Ladies and Gentlemen, we proudly present today our 008… maybe less ominous as a number (even though Agent 008 appears in several Bond-movies, as some of you might know), but crunchy-punchy from hell as a record.

The great Mathias Schaffhäuser himself honours our young label with two tracks made of raspberry-lime-mousse and wrought iron (or maybe rather stainless steel?)

Fat and robust in the deeper frequencies, full of knitting and knocking from low to high, and the upper mids and treble with synth-phrases that that hurl themselves into your auditive neurons like lemmings on dope into the rough sea.
This music is vanilla cream with gunpowder, it screams for sin and senses, it’s ripe and wise, it goes bang and boom and sticks in the space between the speakers like magic-mushroom candyfloss.
It grinds und munches in most subtle ways and the walls of the club shall tremble in greed and pleasure.

Trip, love… I rarely heard tracks that fit better with their titles!

His name is René Breitbarth, he’s from Cologne/Germany, living now in Berlin, he’s quite well known already, of course, and he’s been into making music for quite a while now. He also co-founded other labels, but we from Neopren are tolerant and like him all the same… we all have to collaborate, other labels are friends and not enemies, and the Neopren-records are easy to recognize anyway, thanks to the wonderful artwork!

So, René Breitbarth (this means broad beard, but he does NOT have a beard) has the great honour to do the Neo007 release, that number so rich in mystery and fame.

This 007 „graveyard swing“ release consists of two fantastic, pumping minimal tracks; the bassdrums go as deep under your skin as the most expensive bodylotion, the entire bouquet of the tracks is nicely balanced, and an entire basket full of rippling pearly ingredients will make many of you ask yourselves the „wuttisdatsound“-question…

Especially this totally stonewashed pad-sound in one of the tracks has caused very pleased, sometimes even confortably concerned glances from the people to whom I played the track

But let’s leave the details apart, let’s just insist on the fact that once more a young team of highly motivated and competent label-owners, in cooperation with a brilliant and keen-eared producer/musician, has proved that musical value can be created even in these tough times, affordable to a broad audience, and without any further need of hedging.

So, we have rated this record „strong buy“.
